Welcome to Lynx DevCon – the new developer conference by People & Computers! So what are they, what does that take, and what are the hallmarks of great software development?In this talk Dave Farley explores these ideas, and with examples from software and other industries illustrates each of 10 ideas that when combined can be used to form the basis of a modern, agile, engineering approach to software development. Dave also answers the question “what does ‘quality’ in software really mean?”.

  • Thinking about domain-driven design, we usually imagine tech leads and architects sitting in a room, waving their hands and debating theoretical concepts. Well, it might have worked in the past, but the game is changing once the company starts scaling, and suddenly there are a lot of developers taking part in our ecosystem's development and design. Considering a “developer in the center” or “full autonomy” approach, tech leads and architects should transform from potential bottlenecks to enablers and coachers. In this talk, I will share how to build an architecture-first mindset by defining and propagating architectural guidelines that can be implemented in every design review by every developer. You can expect to hear about the fundamental DDD definitions and how they relate to our real-world microservices implementation in distributed systems.
